Esk Valley Winemakers Reserve Chardonnay has for years been the greatest value genuine Reserve quality Chardonnay in NZ. 2018 vintage is a true terroir expression of its now coastal environs... where the hot, ripening days are contrasted by cool nighttime sea breezes bringing a sophisticated “Yang” to the richer “Ying” flavours. Handpicked fruit Barrel Fermented in French Oak Barriques… 40% new. Michael Cooper’s early release 5-Star review said – “Bright, light yellow/green, with a smoky bouquet, it is a medium to full-bodied wine, full of youthful vigour, with deep stone-fruit flavours, mealy and biscuity notes adding complexity, lively acidity and a tightly structured, long finish. Best drinking 2022+”. Now in 2024... it’s in a beautiful drinking window with all those fruit, wild ferment, winemaking & barrel aging complexities in harmony. Aged for you and drinking beautifully through 2027.
Smells
A beautiful and very complete fragrance of gentle white flowers, vanilla, subtle toast, peaches, gun smoke, brioche & nutty oak.
Tastes
Gorgeously rounded and rich throughout the palate, with the perfect infusion of seductive smoky/nutty/spicy oak complexities threading peach & nectarine fruits. A subtle burst of ripe grapefruit freshens the deliciously long and nutty finish. Enjoy through 2026.
