Description

Nelson’s famed Moutere Clay soils, proximity to the sea, Heaphy Vineyard 40-year-old Mendoza clone vines and the considered winemaking of their Burgundy trained winemaker Emma… have all contributed to this magnificent Chardonnay. A serious discovery for Fine Wine Delivery Chardonnay customers… the pure fruit, powerful palate, superb oak, caressing texture, rich flavours and saline finesse make for Chardonnay seduction. The Quality v Price? Remarkable!!! With its abundant sunshine, lush forests, nearby mountains, and the Tasman Sea’s influence, the region offers the perfect setting for expressive, character-driven wines. And few wines capture that magic better than Heaphy’s Top Chardonnay. The story begins in 1985, when Hermann Seifried planted what would become Heaphy’s prized vineyard blocks on the rich clay soils of Moutere. Dry-farmed and rooted deep into Moutere Clays and Mapua Sandy Loams, the vines produce fruit with incredible texture, weight, and minerality. Add to that the coastal influence from nearby Tasman Bay, which imparts a subtle salinity, and you have a Chardonnay that’s both powerful and precise. Today, Heaphy’s 9.8ha vineyard focuses on its established Mendoza-clone Chardonnay, along with Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc, continuing a legacy of excellence that’s deeply connected to the land.

Smells

Seductive bouquet of ripe stone fruit, almond biscuits, lemon zest, a powerful waft of vanilla bean and toasty French oak.

Tastes

A deliciously structured Chardonnay, deeply layered, bright, generous peach & nectarine fruit, with powerful breadth in the palate. Audacious and seductive… it’s a proper glass of what is arguably New Zealand's, let alone Nelson's most exciting grape variety. The generosity, mouth feel and the citrus and saline inspired freshness on the finish make for a gorgeous Chardonnay experience. Drinking well now through 2028+. Serve with goat’s cheese quiche, roast poultry & white meats. The recommended serving temperature is 10-13 degrees.
