The whole Fine Wine Team wait with bated breath for the annual FW Chardonnay tasting and to taste one of our favourite producers, Isabel Estate, and as always, they never fail to impress as evident in their 2023 Estate Chardonnay. Isabel Estate have been through some ups and downs, once a family-owned Estate to be bought by Endeavour Drinks, owners of Dan Murphys & BWS liquor retail in Australia, of whom Woolworths (WWA) Australia were a major shareholder. Consequently, Isabel Estate wines became exclusive in NZ to Countdown stores, their quality lost in the mire of supermarket retailing. WWA recently sold their majority stake to existing Endeavour shareholders. Endeavour have appointed an independent NZ distributor, these magnificent old-vine Isabel Estate wines are once again available to Fine Wine Delivery customers after a long hiatus. It gives us great pleasure to offer this gorgeous 2023 Isabel Estate Chardonnay which our tasting panel, gave 95/100 rating and all described it as having “Serious WOW Factor”.

A heady perfume of grapefruit, white peach, gunflint, subtle woodsmoke, toasted sourdough and oaky spice nuances in the background.

Classically structured like fine White Burgundy, a racy core of fruit with just the right amount of flesh and a strong mineral thread wrapped throughout. The chalky, citrus, salivating oyster shell, and smoky flavours are energetic and invigorating. One sip and there is no putting the glass down, it is superb and for the price, an absolute bargain. Serve with deep sea fish, roast chicken or pork belly. For optimal drinking pleasure serve between 10-13 degrees.
