Description
True to Pyramid Valley’s signature style & “World Class Quality”, their latest release—2023 Manata Chardonnay from the Pastures Collection—scored an impressive 95 points at our Fine Wine Annual Chardonnay Tasting. A true delight and pleasure to taste, Manata Chardonnay speaks to the bright future of the vineyard and the prowess of the Pyramid Valley viticulture & winemaking team. This impressive Chardonnay is a carefully and beautifully crafted assemblage from their Manata Vineyard in Lowburn, Central Otago, paying tribute to a romantic Māori legend of the region. Nestled in a sheltered valley with elevated, north-facing terraces, the vineyard’s loess soils over deep gravel and pedogenic lime contribute to an elegant, expressive, pure fruited Chardonnay. Like Fine White Burgundy it will age gracefully. A must-have for collectors, this is yet another Pyramid Valley masterpiece worthy of your cellar… peaking through 2029-2033.
Smells
A subtle bouquet initially but with airtime opened beautifully to display lifted green fruits, lemon, lime zest, delicate brioche, and toasty nuances from sensitive oak handling.
Tastes
Ripe green apples, pears and lemon/lime citrus flavours dictate the elegant palate, made in a racy and focused style, exceptional length with a chalky edgy texture. A wine that speaks of the terroir and its cool climate surroundings. A wine that is holding back right now but given time in quality storage, this will be a dead ringer for White Burgundy Grand Cru. Serve with fresh oysters, or all seafoods, roast poultry & pork, or quiche Lorraine. The recommended serving temperature is 10-13 degrees.
We taste, rate & guarantee every wine we sell.
