Description
This 2023 Chardonnay has been given the Rolls Royce of winemaking. Handpicked fruit, whole bunch pressed then fermented in 100% French Oak, a judicious 22% new puncheons... the remainder seasoned. 100% Malolactic fermentation has softened the acidity and along with the regular lees stirring and 11 months in barrel has fattened the texture adding a Ying-yang contrast to the deliciously long finish. And now sporting the new AMW Appellation motif, guaranteeing 100% Marlborough grapes, grown in Marlborough soils and ripened under the Marlborough sun….a new first for Marlborough and NZ…
Smells
Flinty mineral notes subtly underpin complex hazelnut, orange blossom, butterscotch, toast, and citrus zest.
Tastes
A generous, rich palate, with the extended barrel ageing and 100% Malolactic Fermentation attributing to the butterscotch, biscuit, infusion within ripe stone-fruit and zesty citrus elegance on the finish. Enjoy now in its youth, or age over the next 5-7 years... it has great structure to ensure it handles rich, creamy dishes with ease. For optimal drinking pleasure, the recommended serving temperature is 10-13 degrees.
