Description
Rías Baixas (a name that's notoriously tricky to pronounce), also known as "Green Spain," is located along the Atlantic coast, benefiting from the cool, moderating influences of the ocean. Within this region, Val do Salnés is celebrated as the birthplace of Albariño, making it the oldest and most historic sub-region of Rías Baixas. The soils here—granite and rocky with alluvial topsoil—enhance the wines' focus and minerality. This particular Albariño comes from a biodynamic vineyard, perfectly capturing the essence of the variety. Expect divine yellow fruit flavours, a luscious, viscous texture, and salivating, chalky acidity that delivers incredible drinkability.
Smells
intense aromas of stone fruit, peach skin, dehydrated yellow guava, quince, and hints of lavender.
Tastes
a delightfully rich, oily, full-bodied Albarino, that simply knocks my socks off. Many speak of the virtues of this variety and for once this wine truly speaks of them. The concentrated palate has a chalky texture, finishing with a firm Gin & Tonic-like finish. Upon swallowing the acid resonates giving a mouthcoating freshness, and true to form this variety typically has higher acidity levels, clearly apparent in this 2023 Alba Martin. An impressive wine with texture, presence, and power. Drinking well now through 2027 and will match with hard cheese, chicken, and pork. The recommended serving temperature is 9-11 degrees.
