Description
We are all looking for something new, variety is the spice of life. This new release Albarino from Esk Valley ticks all the boxes. A variety that originates from the North-West of Spain and is making good inroads on our fair shores. And this must be the tastiest NZ example I have tried, stunning aromatics; perfumed, floral with a wonderful, sweet lemon lift. A delicious drinking dry, unoaked white wine that delivers and satisfies on many levels. This variety has a natural affinity for seafood especially due to the high acid levels characteristic of the variety, refreshing and cleansing on the palate, leaving a strong urge for more.
Smells
the aromas are almost Riesling-like, white lilies, green pears, and honeysuckle with delightful notes of lemonades (sweet lemons).
Tastes
the balance is impeccable, green fruits with citrus notes lift the palate with a juicy acid thread. Yet there is a rich, creamy mid-back palate that pleases no end. Satisfyingly dry, yet perfumed, refreshing, and invigorating at the same time. A pure delight in the glass on every level. Drinking exceptionally well now through 2025 with cheese or fresh seafood.
