The Artisanal Collection is a new range of fine wines in Esk Valley’s portfolio, with winemaker Gordon Russel’s artistry behind the early releases, yielding soulful wines. Under Gordon’s stewardship and craftsmanship, Esk Valley has produced artisan wines that draw not only on Hawke’s Bay’s ideal growing conditions but Gordon’s creative passion. This two-terrace single vineyard Chenin Blanc was gently hand harvested/pressed and aged on its lees with regular stirring building complexity and richness. Full and flavourful like quality Loire Chenin Blanc, but with more rounded acidity ensuring it drinks nicely as a younger wine and still age well. A stunning food wine modestly priced, include it in a dinner party lineup… your guests will be impressed with your artisan choice.
Smells
Striking aromas, different from the norm, but very exciting and enticing. Perfumed notes of freshly squeezed lemon juice, sherbet, icing sugar dusted with cinnamon and freshly grated nutmeg, give way to subtle white pepper and oak nuances.
Tastes
Beautifully pure, crisp, dry white wine bursting with fresh lemon and lime zest flavours supporting a rich core of apple, pear, guava, plus subtle floral characters. Laced with basil, lavender, and a salty, zesty acid vein, the palate is pure vitality complimenting its richness. Wonderful drinking in its youth with cheeses and charcuterie, possibly roast poultry and rich seafoods, get creative. It will age superbly and become even more rounded through 2032+.
