Description
Verdeca is a refreshing, dry grape variety primarily grown in the southern regions of Italy. For decades it was used to produce Vermouth, but its decreasing global interest has consequently led to fewer Verdeca plantings. John Kirwan the famous All Black has a love for all things Italian starting with his Italian wife and he wanted to share his love and passion for Italian wines with us back in NZ. Making a selection of different varieties and spirits selling under his JK.14 label here in Aotearoa.
Smells
wonderfully perfumed, floral notes, almost Riesling-like, with white lilies, lemon zest, green apples, hints of honey and orange blossom.
Tastes
a classically dry, crisp white wine, unoaked that is ultimately refreshing and drinkable. A creamy mid-palate texture is balanced by the salty, salivating lemon skin acid line that would cut through rich creamy seafood dishes.
