Description
Gruner Veltliner, a native variety of Austria that is taking the world by storm with its rich, oily, dry style, is slightly likened to Pinot Gris in aromatics and palate structure. The two legendary regions for this variety are Kamptal and Wachau where vineyards are situated on the terraced, schist slopes of the Danube. A sight to behold, a stunning part of the world, as are their wines.
Smells
classic fragrant aromas of freshly baked apple pie with the crust cooked to a rich, golden-brown, interwoven with ripe pears, hints of elderflowers, cinnamon with creamy, leesy and brioche notes.
Tastes
the palate is rich, full, and ultimately satisfying, a dry, white unoaked wine, making the perfect start to any dinner party. Restrained flavours of almond meal, corn husks, white lilies, lifted by apples, pears and white nectarines are all supported by the creamy texture, and moderately soft acid, making for a superbly drinkable style where resistance is futile; you will be going for another sip before you realise. The ideal partner for canapes, cheese platters or rich seafood treats.
