Description

It’s appropriate to call Kumeu River Estate Pinot Gris iconic... it is one of two (the other from Central Otago) premium level Pinot Gris that enjoy a status with drinkers that just offering them from our shop floor/shelves is sufficient to sell out annual allocations well prior to next vintage release. Immaculate vineyard management and low cropping ensures Kumeu River Estate always has impeccable varietal character, depth, richness and balance. It’s the combination of fruit, rich texture, lithe acidity and mineral freshness that makes it such delicious, complex, full bodied and satisfying Pinot Gris.

Smells

Subtle white flowers precede white peach, nectarine, fresh pear and baking spices.

Tastes

Delicious parade of rich stone fruits and pear infused with baking spices in an Alsace viscous like texture buoyed by gently tangy citrus and fresh mineral notes. Great with food (white meats, poultry, shellfish) but also delicious by itself. Enjoy through 2027.

It is hard to find a Pinot Gris that is not bland and dry. For anyone who is an aromatic fan, then this is a wine that is both delicate and fruity without being sweet. It is full of lingering flavour of pear and peach and whilst it is beautiful drinking now, it will cellar for another 5 years improving erstwhile. A $50 wine for sub $30.
