Description

Mention Waiheke Island and wines… one name quickly springs to mind; Man O' War, with its gorgeous setting on the beach front, a tasting room reminding you of a summer house on a tropical island, and to complete the experience… they make/offer exciting wines. The complete package!!!! What you don’t see from their tasting room is the dramatic patchwork quilt of 75 vineyards scattered among the hills behind: some precariously sloping up to 45 degrees. This seeming endless abundance of diverse terroir enables Man Q’ War to grow & make world-class, site-specific wines, of which “Exiled Pinot Gris” is one. Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate summed it up perfectly saying… Man O’ War is without a doubt one of New Zealand’s greatest wineries in the making and one to watch”. They are the go-to winery on Waiheke for their dynamic, interesting wines that offer consistency of quality and price. Exiled Pinot Gris showcases that to a tee.

Smells

Hedonistic aromas of ripe peaches, yellow guava, lemonade (sweet lemons) with subtle nuances of countryside spices & herbs of their Mediterranean like environment. The entire aromatic experience reminds you of Alsace, the home of Pinot Gris.

Tastes

A rather powerful expression of Pinot Gris that shows the true potential of this variety when fruit yields are kept low, with the grapes harvested at the perfect stage of ripeness. A wonderfully rich, oily and creamy texture that titillates the senses with a lemon zest acidity giving balance to the concentrated and exciting palate. Honeysuckle, cream of soda and ripe stone fruit flavours prevail, consistent with a riper Pinot Gris that has superb balance and is quite frankly darn drinkable. The perfect partner for roast chicken with all the trimmings, this summer and through till 2029.
