Description

Originally established as Wolta Wolta in 1839, The Lodge Hill Vineyard became part of Jim Barry's vision in 1977 when he purchased the land, convinced it would produce some of the Clare Valley's finest Riesling. Perched 480 meters above sea level on the Eastern Ranges of the Clare Valley, the vineyard benefits from intense bursts of sunlight and cool nights, creating the ideal environment for slow ripening. This unique combination enhances the natural acidity and zesty citrus characteristics of its fruit, while the small crop size ensures exceptional quality. The 2014 Library Release showcases why Jim Barry's Rieslings are worth cellaring. With time, these wines develop a depth and complexity that beautifully balances their vibrant acidity and rich, evolving flavours—a true testament to the vineyard's pedigree and Barry's foresight.

Smells

the nose is still perfumed with a purity of florals, lemon and lime with hints of orange marmalade, honey and still the mineral, flinty, wet stone characters of this wine in its youth.

Tastes

even though it’s been 10 years in the bottle, the colour is still a brilliant pale straw. The palate is lively, zesty, crunchy and with a mouth filling quality that age brings, a creamy mid-palate, a harmony of fruit and acid and the orange peel, grapefruit marmalade and honeysuckle flavours due to time. A seamless wine from go to whoa, and it will still age a further 5 years+. Serve with fresh oysters. The recommended serving temperature is 7-10 degrees.

We taste, rate & guarantee every wine we sell.
