Description
An amazing but unusual style of Riesling, Pegasus Bay Bel Canto takes the botrytis usually associated with sweeter styles and brings its flavours to a drier style of Riesling. Highly complex and filled with a vibrant energy, 2023 is an exceptional wine, rich, oily, full bodied, not usual descriptives for Riesling, and with a desirable Gin & Tonic like firmness on the finish, giving harmony to the rich, oily palate.
Smells
So much citrus zest, orange and mandarin with ginger and apricot adding further excitement.
Tastes
The citrus zest is almost becoming candied peel due to that botrytis influence, with honeysuckle, orange marmalade with hints of lemon and lime juice around the edges. The phenolics are hard at work, giving great texture before it’s all swished away by tight acidity. Drink young or cellar up to 2030 (and beyond?). Would go perfectly with Vietnamese sweet and sour pork ribs. For optimal drinking pleasure the recommended serving temperature is 7-10 degrees.
