Description
Rippon is all about the massive slab of metamorphic schist rock that abides beneath the vineyard. With over 30 years of winegrowing now to draw on with first Rolf and now Nick Mills, the older vines have had a chance to really get their roots down and tell the story of the vineyard.
Smells
The heady perfume is commanding, and compelling on every level. Aromas of wet rock, lemon zest, with a persistent floral perfume, swirling amongst nougat and short pastry.
Tastes
Flavours of lime juice freshly crushed in a mortar and pestle made of schist express the soil and the energy of this site and are further evident in the taut and linear structure. This 2021 is perhaps their best yet, the aromatics are sublime combined with the rich, creamy mid-palate which are heavenly, and perfectly complemented by the racy, energising minerality inherent to this striking site. Enjoy in its youth or cellar for 10 years with confidence. Perfect with creamy cheeses or oysters.
