Description
Champion Trophy for “Best Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc” + Champion Trophy for “Best Marlborough wine of 2021”. A majestic expression of Sauvignon Blanc and a compelling example of the truest definition of the designation “Reserve” ... no higher quality or more consistently excellent Sauvignon does Marlborough produce. Crafted by St Clair’s highly decorated winemaking team using the finest fruit from their impressive array of premium Single Vineyards... only the crème de la crème of fruit is considered for inclusion in this flagship Sauvignon Blanc. Grown in the lower Wairau Valley... the daytime temperatures are warmer for optimal ripening while the proximity to the ocean brings cooling nighttime breezes to lock in flavour and structure. The vines have gotten older... the winemaking and viticultural knowledge amplified... the wine even more excellent... but the price has been dormant for a decade. Outstanding and “Unmissable” Sauvignon Blanc... a wine that will age well beyond 10-years if well stored... but I dare you to keep your hands off it for very long at all.
Smells
Haunting and intense aromatics of passionfruit, grapefruit, sandalwood, orange blossom, white peach, and enticing notes of fresh sweat.
Tastes
Wonderfully weighted and rich... both fulsome and texturally soft throughout the deliciously plump palate. A flood of mouth-watering citrus freshening and elevating additional thrilling nuances of ripe tropical fruit with passionfruit obvious on the finish. A Sauvignon with few peers in a region filled with excellence, this should be enjoyed with good food and good company anytime from tonight through to 2024 (2030 if you wish to enjoy stylish older Sauvignon) and it’s the perfect partner with Marlborough mussels or pan seared snapper.
We taste, rate & guarantee every wine we sell.
