Description
The fruit is sourced mainly from the Elderton Vineyard situated on the banks of the North Para River, Nuriootpa, Barossa Valley, South Australia. Elderton has the luxury of selecting fruit from vines varying in age from 22-123 years of age before oak maturation in mostly seasoned American puncheons for 24 months. This is a wine for the caller, 10-15 years of ageing will see this wine open up and secondary characters develop, but if you can’t resist temptation decant and sit for 2 hours.
Smells
A whiff of mint dark chocolate, dusty cocoa, liquorice, and blackberry.
Tastes
Chocolate, after-dinner mints, blackberry, and attractive earthy notes spill over into a long finish with fine, cocoa-flecked tannins. A classic Aussie style that will partner well with roasted lamb or venison.
